Kupyansk family doctors widened their knowledge on children’s brain development

On 13 July 2016 Andriy Penkov, President of the Ukrainian-German Medical Association, pediatrician of the highest category, MD, carried out a training “Children’s brain development” and “Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy” for more than fifty family doctors and nurses interested in this topic.

The pediatrician talked about his experience in newborn infant reanimation and difficulties with using new effective treatment methods. Penkov was one of the first doctors in Kharkiv who saved a newborn with meconium aspiration by using 60 lung pressure rates, instead of stated 20.

The important part of the training was dedicated to the conditions of health development. The deprivation of such infant needs as eating, close contact with mother and communication can seriously injure a child.

The pediatrician suggested expanding the perception of health: "When we talk about health, usually, in medicine, we are focused on physical health. But in addition to physical health, there are several areas of child’s development: intellectual, adaptive, developing of communication skills, understanding, creating warm relations with parents and other people”.

“A healthy child develops in all areas harmoniously. Such infants can express themselves in any society, can adapt quickly and solve any problem. Moreover, he or she can successfully learn and achieve goals in the shortest way “, - said Andriy Penkov.

Seminars are conducted under the project "Transformation of primary health care in Chuhuyiv" financed by the International Renaissance Foundation.
