Representatives of baby homes from different regions of Ukraine learn the basics of pediatric palliative care

On January 9, 2017 the first training on palliative care for children was conducted by Andriy Penkov, member of Kharkiv expert group in medical reform, President of the Ukrainian-German Medical Association, pediatrician of the highest category, MD, and by Olena Riga, professor of the Pediatrics and Neonatology department at the Kharkiv National Medical University, MD.

Trainers shared with the participants their observations on the specifics of palliative care abroad.

Andriy Penkov described different models, basic principles and specific aspects of pediatric palliative care.

Together with Olena Riga participants analyzed the main differences between palliative care for adults and children, identified groups of children requiring palliative care, discussed childhood morbidity and mortality.

The training session is conducted under the Project “Creating a new model of family-and-community oriented services for children with special needs” supported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
